About Manchester eScholar
Our mission is to
- sustain and enhance the research reputations of individuals and organisations affiliated with The University of Manchester
- enhance the global research community's ability to access The University of Manchester's research outputs
We recognise that electronic dissemination of scholarly work is now commonplace and often the preferred mechanism of accessing research findings.
Furthermore, we believe obstacles that impair the ability of busy academic researchers to access (good) research findings reduce the likelihood that they are read and cited. Manchester eScholar gives researchers a single point of access to find the scholarly work generated by individuals affiliated with The University of Manchester.
We plan for Manchester eScholar to benefit the day-to-day activities of researchers. Researchers will find it easy, to display and maintain a list of publications on their websites; to confidently cite work using a simple and persistent web address; to access all forms of scholarly work (traditional and non-traditional) in a digital form, whether they be journal articles, book contributions, PhD theses, technical reports, working papers or conference presentations.
Manchester eScholar represents a long-term commitment by The University of Manchester which aims to,
- increase global access to copyright-cleared full text versions of the University of Manchester's portfolio of scholarly work
- increase the visiblity of researchers publications on the World Wide Web
- provide a set of 'added-value' support services for University staff and postgraduate students that enable individuals to maximise the potential of their research
- provide a locus for University staff and postgraduate students to manage, disseminate and share their publications
- provide a secure and reliable store for all intellectual assets created by staff and postgraduate students during the course of their employment or studies at the University
