As Royal Literary Society Writing Fellow, I am here to help you improve your approach to academic writing, to help shape and structure your work on the page, and to answer all those awkward grammar and style questions you thought it was too late to ask.
(all published by Melville House in the US and UK) form a loose trilogy about imaginary and lesser-known writers and books. I have also written a number of short stories which have been published in various magazines, anthologies and websites. I have edited four collections of short stories, including Love Bites: Stories inspired by Buzzcocks and Pete Shelley (Dostoevsky Wannabe, 2018.) I am a winner of a Northern Writers Award for 2021, and have previously been listed for the Sunday Times/EFG Prize, and the Society of Authors McKitterick Prize. My work has been translated into French, German, and Turkish.
I have over twenty years of teaching experience, having taught English language and literature in Italy, Germany, Morocco, Russia, and China. Much of my teaching work has focussed on helping students develop their writing skills.

Academic writing can sometimes seem daunting. Questions of structure, style, and grammar can be baffling. I will listen to you, look at your work carefully, and help guide you through your questions in order to help you to communicate your ideas as clearly as possible. I have worked with students and academics at all levels, at all stages of their careers, and in many different fields. If you are an undergraduate who isn’t sure quite what academic style is, or a postgraduate researcher who is having trouble clearly articulating a complex thesis statement, I can help. If English is not your first language, I can help. If no one ever taught you what a non-defining relative clause is, or which verb tense to use, I can help.
If you come to see me, our conversation will be all about form rather than content. You can set aside the detail of your subject for a little while and instead focus on how best to express your ideas, how to most effectively communicate that powerful and compelling argument.
